Developing people can be one of the most complex and challenging tasks facing a leader. But it can also be one of the most rewarding things a leader can do.

When setting goals, you can start by asking yourself:

  1. What do you need to achieve?
  2. What do the people you are leading want to achieve?
  3. Where and how do these overlap? Where are there conflicts?

  • You can never fully know a person, but as a leader your goal is to learn as much as you can about what drives your people.
  • The best way to learn about a person is through observing them.
