  • Within first 30 days: Observe
  • Within first 60 days: Learn
  • Within first 90 days: Contribute

It doesn't matter whether you are in a leadership position or not, but you should not be looking to change anything for at least the first 90 days in a new position. You simply can't know enough about the people, the teams, and the work that is being done within those first 90 days to begin any kind of change process.

First 30 Days: Observe

  • Meet teams.
  • Meet direct reports.
  • Start to learn company policies and practices.
  • Attend appropriate meetings and discussions.
  • Observe and ask questions.

First 60 Days: Learn

  • Meet indirect reports.
  • Start to participate in and contribute to discussions.
  • Never stop observing, listening, and asking questions.

First 90 Days: Contribute

  • Start assessing what you observe.
  • Start contributing thoughts, ideas, and opinions.
  • Never stop observing, listening, and asking questions.
