Leadership - Communication - Complaints

This is one of the foundational tenets of leadership, and is closely tied to the value of transparency.

  • Complain up.

  • Explain down.

  • Don't complain down; it erodes trust in leadership; even if that's the write "moral" things

  • Don't complain about things you think are problems.

  • First focus your energy on thinking from the other perspective. Then focus your energy on how you could solve the problem, or how you could "do better".

  • Once you have a better understanding of the different perspectives, as well as some ideas on how to potentially improve or change the situation, now you can "complain".
